My First Day at Work

Today was my first work day at Bekaa Technical and Vocational Institute. Although I knew that I might have annoying and rude students, but my expectations weren't highly set.
My class consisted of 10 students. some of them failed and are repeating the year once again. Some just don't want to attend classes and learn, and some wont stop commenting on whatever i or their friends do. Luckily, I knew how to manage the class but still, there were some disrupting students that you just cant stop the class and deal with them every now and then, so i ignored some a lot, and used physical proximity and the evil eye as well.

  1. Oh my god, I can't imagine how your classes are going. hahahha. First of all,, You should not have pre-judgement of the student before entering the classroom.
Second of all, I know it's hard to teach students who are considered adults now, just be strong!
I also can't imagine you giving the evil eye :p
I wish you go through this without any problems.

  3. We all as teachers may face such kind of problems, because we are dealing with different kinds of little minds. Although they are considered as adults, but because they don't know the importance of the place they are in or the importance of you as their teacher, so they are still considered as kids with little minds. But off course dealing with them is more difficult than dealing with little children.
I advise you to try some positive ways first. For example, try to be their friend but with "limits".
I think this will help you :)
If not, may God help you! hahaha ;)

    1. hahah Mawaddah I am trying with them several way, but the point is that they consider learning English in particular as a useless thing. I wonder what I should be using to make them know the value of learning English. Will take your comment into account thanks dear :*

  4. for this kind of classes, it's very important to be strict once they meet you, then make them feel that you care about their future, and you do as possible as you can in order not to make them fail. I think they will respect you.

  6. Education is the highest message and the hardest profession. In it we as teachers are dealing with different human minds. We have to work on hiring these minds to serve themselves and their community. But teaching the adolescence stage need more accurate parameter work and more methods and technology. Here is our duty as teachers to search for more than one way to attract students and make them keep quiet classroom environment.
It’s a good job that you have tried several techniques to change student’s behaviors. I am sure that you will get positive results. Because anyone who works hard will find positive results.

  8. It's really hard to teach students who have a similar age, especially if it's your first year teaching! It's very challenging; students are very opinionated and many, in your case, come from (unfortunately) an environment that doesn't consider the importance of education. Maybe it's because of the widespread view of vocational schools as lower than the regular education. This is really sad. Maybe if you try to convince your students that what they are learning is as important as university degrees, they'll become more accepting and cooperative.
    Good luck! :)
