Wage Raise Demands

One of the most recent trends happening nowadays in our country, is the wage raise demanded by different sectors (Public sector employees, army and mainly teachers). This issue has been raised since 2008, and until now, a huge range of the Lebanese employees including teachers didn’t get what was promised.

So in order to get their rights back, secondary teachers decided to get on strike and lock off all public schools to protest against this government last Wednesday, March 15 in front of the Parliament. They thought that if they did so in this cold rainy weather, the government will do something, will take the wisest decision, will increase their wages… But oops! What happened? It wasn't even anticipated and everybody was surprised!
The decision has been made and announced which is to force more taxes on the Lebanese citizens so what we call "government" will be able to fund the wage increase. And as a result, lots of people thought that if the teachers didn’t protest that day, the government wouldn’t have increased the taxes to 11 % (which is not accurate at all).

It will take us years to reach civilization and advancement, and if we want to talk about this issue in details we won't finish. At the end, I just want to tell those who are blaming teachers for asking for their rights to please stop this "farce thing" and blame the Lebanese government for holding false claims to get further sources of income from its citizens. Blame the politicians, those who are living a blissful life and all what they care about their own good, rather than the good of their country and its citizens...

Can you imagine the traffic jam because of this protestation? 🚥

  1. Some of our politicians don't take into consideration how serious this situation is, teachers always suffer without getting their rights. Hope after all this, they get their rights and the right payment they deserve

    1. I totally agree with you! Maybe because they haven't been in the teachers' shoes. I also hope that this strike and protestation will lead to positive results.
